My 3 year old son throws multiple tantrums a day, what can I do?

I’m looking for some parenting help for my 5 year old.

My 8 year old daughter is strong willed, defiant, and emotional – help!

Parent Coaching Group, Cohort #1

Starting in late February, you are invited to join me, Katie Malinski, in a parenting coaching group.  Join a small group of like-minded parents for support, information, compassion, insight, and growth.

Most parenting questions are a great fit for group coaching. If you’re having the problem, chances are other parents are having it, too!

*******UPDATE*******: We are not currently enrolling for a group but please go here to indicate your interest in a future group (you can specify the topic you’re most interested in.)

Who YOU Are

  • Parent of a child ages 3-10

  • Wanting to better understand and manage behavior

  • Committed to creating a very strong, life-long positive relationship with your child.

  • Ready for a community of supportive, non-judgmental parents who are juggling the same things you are.

  • Willing to look at your own role in the tough moments.

  • Someone who appreciates authenticity and little humor with your parenting advice.

  • Able to participate live on Zoom (from anywhere!)

What’s Challenging You?

  • Tantrums

  • Defiance

  • School behavior problems

  • Emotional regulation problems

  • Problems with transitions

  • Sensory processing problems

  • Aggressive behavior (hitting, kicking, biting, etc)

  • Anxiety and all the ways it manifests (control, breakdowns, rigidity, outbursts)

  • Sibling challenges

  • ADHD and all of its related challenges :^)

How do Parent Coaching Groups work?

  • Each session is 1 hour long.

  • Our very first session will include introductions and a discussion about our agreements with each other (ie, safety, support, permission.)

  • Subsequent sessions are tailored to what YOU want.  Parents who have a story to tell or a question to ask can submit it ahead of time via email, or simply speak up and ask for time.  Katie will do a little math, figure out how long each person’s slot is, and use a timer to keep it generally fair.

  • Over the course of our 4 meetings, each participant can expect to be able to ask 1-2 small questions and unpack 1 incident.  (We will have a framework for presenting and discussing incidences.)  If there’s empty time, it’s available for anyone to use!

  • You’ll notice that other parents’ challenges are often parallel to yours… so hearing other’s questions and answers can be just as valuable as your own.

Group coaching vs. one-on-one coaching vs. a class?!  How do I pick?

  • Most parenting questions are a great fit for group coaching. If you’re having the problem, chances are other parents are having it, too! Plus, it’s such a comfort to see that you aren’t alone. In a parent coaching group, you’ll learn from one another as well as from Katie.

  • Classes have a set agenda, and tackle specific topics–common things I’ve found coming up again and again with parents.  They are also much larger groups than group coaching.  Classes are also recorded for parents who can’t attend live, and are priced very affordably.

  • One on one sessions are reserved for the most critical situations.

Each session’s conversations are based on member needs.

And, rest assured, we will surely cover these topics (and more!):

  • The Arc of the Tantrum (always worth revisiting!)

  • Childhood behavioral norms for YOUR kid’s age

  • Growth vs Finish Line parenting situations

  • Emotional Boundaries

  • Playful & creative techniques for eliciting cooperation

  • The 60-40-0 rule

  • Circle back conversations

  • Parenting & the nervous system

  • Behavior problems at school

  • Non-verbal communication

  • Increasing your child’s EQ

  • The hierarchy of badness

  • The 3 stages of kids learning how to do things

  • Flight distance

Testimonials

This is a random email, but I wanted to let you know that I think about you and apply the advice/ tools you gave me (personally and as it relates to my kids) almost every single day.  It has been invaluable.

Mom, 5 & 7 year olds
Your class is really helping us with navigating the flavor of issues we were having over here. I’m flexing new muscles in learning how to keep myself regulated and doing what I’ve aspired to (respond not react) in my entire 4 year parenting journey so far. The insight into how my reactions were fueling our battles has been so valuable. SO reassuring. Thanks for so many great tools.
Kay, mom of 4 year old
The class was great! I received a ton of practical advice with a professional explanation. Every parenting class also helps me know that I’m not alone in my struggles. :-)
Mom of 2, 4, and 6 year olds

Great class!  Reinforcing the idea of a physical process the child must go through helped to make it less “personal” so to speak; the specific intervention approaches best for each part of the curve was also very helpful.

M & D, 6 year old daughter

Katie’s class was informative, applicable to everyday parenting challenges, and encouraging. As parents we always want to do right by our kids but know that we don’t always have the tools. Katie did a wonderful job walking us through the principals and teaching us how to apply them while encouraging us along the way.

Parents of 2, 18 mo & 3.5

Amy, mom of 3

The handout is great, love being able to go over it multiple times, and also liked the Q & A at the end. I know this is class and not therapy but it’s really helpful to benefit from other parents – knowing we’re not alone in our struggles. We’ve been really isolated in the pandemic and it was nice to know others were having similar experiences.

R & S, parents of 2
I hopped in my car right after that last class and I had the impulse to call you through the car like I would a good friend and say ‘hey! You did GREAT and I really feel supported and encouraged and that was an awesome class.’  That’s a credit to how you do it and the intimacy you communicate to the individuals within the crowd. So yay!
